Dr. Ramirez-Barrios, a veterinary clinical parasitologist, is a faculty member of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) at Virginia Tech. Originally from Venezuela, he received his DVM from the Universidad del Zulia and his MS in Teaching from the Universidad Simon Rodriguez, both in Venezuela, and his PhD in Veterinary Parasitology from Universidad de Cordoba, Spain. Dr. Ramirez-Barrios’ duties at the VMCVM include teaching parasitology in the veterinary curriculum and parasitology to undergraduate students. He’s also the parasitology section head of the Virginia Tech Veterinary Services Lab (ViTALS), an AAVLD accredited lab. His research focuses mainly on vector-borne pathogens, especially trypanosomes, but also includes gastrointestinal nematodes in small ruminants.
