Ken Pettey has always had a keen interest in sheep and goat production. He has farmed with the South African Mutton Merino. His interest in parasitology developed while studying for a BSc(Hons) degree in Microbiology at the University of the Witwatersrand. He received a BVSc degree from the University of Pretoria in 1982. He has been involved in academia (production animals) since 1983. He owns a private mixed animal practice that is managed by colleagues. He has delivered papers at local and international congresses. In 2014, he joined the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management, a specialist body. Ken is interested in developing pedagogy to facilitate long term memory retention in students. He has done some research in this regard while presenting the small ruminant course. He is also very interested in methods used to disseminate continuing education and extension information.
